The second half of the day is yours, with no activities included.

Day 2: Entirely Unguided

This is the day that separates the tour from a standard day trip. There is no guide and no schedule. Hike popular trails, photograph wildlife, or sit by the Merced River.

In spring and summer you can add biking, rafting, fishing or stargazing. In winter, park rangers can help you plan snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, tubing or ice skating, weather permitting. If waterfalls are the draw, remember that Yosemite Falls flows roughly November to July and is often a trickle or dry by August, while Bridalveil Fall runs all year.

Day 3: the Sequoia Hike and the Ride Home

Spend the morning discovering more of the park on your own. In the afternoon, meet the tour vehicle at Yosemite Valley Lodge (Stop #7) at the time listed in your confirmation email. Before leaving the park, the group hikes to the Tuolumne Grove of giant sequoias, a moderate walk on a dirt trail, listed by the park service as 2.5 miles round trip with 500 ft of elevation change and a typical time of 1-2 hours.

From November through March, when the trail can be unsafe from snow or ice, the operator replaces the hike with additional time in Yosemite Valley. Then comes the 4-5 hour drive back, with a dinner stop around 6 PM.

Where Your Hours Go

Across the three days, the guided road time is roughly 8-10 hours of driving split over days 1 and 3, and the sequencing is stated only by the operator as shown below. On a standard day tour the split is stark: 4-5 hours each way for about 4.5-5 hours in the park. Here, the overnight stops remove the pressure, because your time in the park runs from day 1 drop-off to the day 3 afternoon pickup, with day 2 wholly unguided.

Anyone Set on Glacier Point

Cancellation and Payment

Pack hiking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, as the listing states. The valley sits at about 4,000 ft, so layers matter even in summer. Bring money for meals, since no food is included and stops are made to buy it.

Bring your $250 America the Beautiful Non-Resident Pass if you hold one, so the $100 fee is waived. If you are not staying at a hotel within Yosemite Valley, bring only what you can comfortably carry: the listing warns that storage space on the YARTS shuttles is very limited and no public luggage storage is available in the park.
